1 Year Old

080808 is the date when my blog has just started. It is also the day when the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games has its grand opening ceremony. For the past year, many things has happened. Some expected while others are not.

For example, the power transition in UMNO, or rather in a bigger picture, the Barisan Nasional, has caused the resuffle of power in the Malaysia federal government. The prime minister are no longer Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi but is now his ex-deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. This isn't something really unexpected as the March 8 General Election has shown a decline in support towards the Abdullah-led goverment. Besides that, the economy crisis which has already been predicted to worsen has really did so. Major indices around the world are busy heading southwards especially between September and December last year. Luckily, for now, we can see signs of recovery. Hopefully that whatever the Najib-led government will do on the country's economy model reformation will be able to reposition Malaysia in the financial world.

On the other hand, there are a lot of things unexpected happened too. One that has affected me the most directly is that i ma now studying in AIMST University, Kedah Darul Aman. Before this, I have never thought that I would have come here to study. I have expected myself to be doing A-Levels in Taylor's University College but things have changed, so quickly and dramatically. Another thing which is unexpected but might affect each and everyone of us is the current outbreak of the infueanza A(H1N1) all around the world. This few weeks the situation has turned from bad to worse. People now are so afraid of it. It spread in such a high rate that it has now become hard to keep track. Just today, Health Minister, Dato' Liow Tiong Lai has announced that the number of confirmed case in Malaysia will not be announced anymore as it has become too hard to track all the patients.

365 days has passed, everyday there will be new things happening. The world is changing so we should also. If we don't do so, it won't be too long before we will be changed by someone else.

Holiday!

From last Monday, I am having my mid-term holiday. But, as said by some in my class, there is no difference between having holiday and not having. Why? You will not ask this question again if you see the load of work that was assigned to us for the holiday. 8 sets of Math’s past year paper, 4 sets of Physics’, 8 sets of Thinking Skills’ (half of the questions in each set were done already) and many more. When the holiday has just begun, you may be happy for this moment because you are having holiday but for the next moment, you may feel stressed as you are loaded by all these homework. Anyway, all these homework are meant to help us to be more prepared for our semester exam which will be in June. And think of it again, it is actually something good to have all these homework for the holiday as you will not feel bored and you will not waste you time too much.

Last Tuesday, a few of my friends and I have participated in the Euclide Competition. It is actually a Mathematics Quiz which is organized by university of Waterloo, Canada. The first few questions were okay but toward the end of the paper, the questions are getting harder and harder. But I have already expected that because my teacher has already told me about that. It was a good experience. First time I am having a so called exam in my college’s Multi Purpose Hall.

Then on last Monday I went to Mid Valley Megamall myself. Yes, I went by myself. Sounds weird right as I am not going with my friends. But what can I do? My friends who are staying near to my house still need to go to college as there are taking other courses. Friends from my class? Most of them who are staying around college have gone back to their hometown. There are some who are local but I though that they may be staying a bit far so I decided not to call them along, Anyway, I went there because I would want to witness the model of the baby blue whale. It was a masterpiece. Then I went to MPH bookstore and sat there to read a book for about an hour. The book that I have read was titled ‘March 8 – The Day when Malaysian Woke Up’ or something like that, cannot really recall the exact name of the book. Anyway, that was not a bad book. It gathers the point of view of many people about the historic GE that has taken place last year.

Planned to go Sunway Pyramid today but now I do not feel like doing so. I have not done any revision yet. Tests and exams will come very soon. Internal tests by college on all the subjects that I have taken can take place anytime after I have returned to college. One that is confirmed already will be the Moral Education test 3, which will take place next Tuesday. The topic that will be tested will be religions and beliefs and there might be some questions on social issues as well. As soon as I return to college next Tuesday, I will need to face a few results of the test I have done before the holiday. I am not expecting very outstanding results as I do not feel that I have done well. Just hope that my marks will not be too far from what I have achieved in my previous test.

Hope that this holiday will help me to recharge my body and my mind so that I will be able to do better in studies when college resumes again.

Let's Usher In the Year of Ox

The year of Rat can be said as a year which has a good start but has not a very wonderful ending. When the yaer of Rat has just begun, everyone is having the hope for a better future in the year. It turns out to be that way in almost the first half of it but the Rat seems to be unable to continue to sustain good luck for so many people. the second half of the year seems to be a disaster for many people. Problems after problems, crisis after crisis, everything just seems to go wrong. Anyway, that was what for the yaer of Rat, since it is now the time for us to usher in the year of Ox, we should look in front and just hope that things will be able to start turning well in the coming year.

In two months time, Our fifth prime minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will step down. His position as the head of the government will be taken over by the current deputy prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. At the same time, he will be taking over the country's ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional. By the time, we will see whether he will be able to bring BN into a better tomorrow or he will become the last one to head BN before it becomes an opposition coalition. We as the rakyat will definitely hope that it will be able to change. The reforms under the masterplan of Pak Lah if not just being carried out but also being improved, BN will definitely be able to return to the right track. It has now gone far far away from its initial track which has its main purpose is to serve the rakyat. Corruption, power abuse, inequality and many more has destroyed the good image of the coalition set by its founder. Najib will have a lot to do to restore the image of the coalition in the heart of the rakyat who will bear the responsibility to judge his performance by choosing whether to vote for BN or not in the next general election. To make things worse for him, the global economy recession taking place now will means that he will not just need to carry out reforms but also to make sure that the country's economy will continue to grow.

Talking about the economy, the recession started last year is expected to continue this year. With the economy of many countries has already undergone recession, we as Malaysian can never be trusting anyone who says that our economy will continue to grow and the recession initiated from US will not have a great effect on us. In fact, there are already some forecast tabled by economists which predict that we will be undergoing recession in the first quarter of the year. We just hope that it will not be true. However, it is something which may become the reality. Thus, we will need to get ourselves prepared. Unemployment rate is expected to rocket after the Chinese New Year with many Malaysians who are working in Singaporean been sent back. The government must be really ready for the worst. The 7 billion economy stimulus package will not be enough to sustain the country's economy. Thus the government has to do their job and think of ways to ensure that the rakyat will not suffer. Maybe this will be a golden oppurtunity for the government to restructure the country's economy which has now become more and more unattractive not just towards investors but also those that are local. Changes should be made in order to ensure that the Malaysian market shines in the global arena. Besides that, the return of many professionals from neoghbouring countries due to unemployment should also be seen as a chance for the governmnet to bring them back to serve the country. These professionals are actually assets for the country and the government should do something to make them feel happy serving Malaysia. Moreover, the global stock market which has tumbled in the year of Rat is also hoped to have a cahnce to rebound this year. Many are hoping that the bull which will push the market to head north to return in the yaer of Ox(bull). Will things really happens this way? Will the share investors be happy when the yaer of Ox comes to an end? All thes will be things which will be interesting for us to observe when this year concludes.

Everytime when there is a new beginning, many people will start hoping for things that are better than what they are having now. It is good that we hope for a better tomorrow as this is one of the ways to keep us moving forward and constantly improving ourselves. However, in the same time, we should not forget what we are having now. There are a lot of things which we have taken for granted. We should start thinking back how those things are so important but yet how we have ignore the presence of them. Let us cherish those things that we have. Happy Chinese New Year!

The Beginning of College Life

Hi, everyone. It has been almost 2 weeks since I started college life. Now I am still trying to adapt to the new environment, new system, new place and many other new things. Hopefully that the adaptation period will not be too long.

Stepping into Taylor's University College has made me realise that now I am entering into another phrase of my life. It is now time to say goodbye to the free education provided by the Malaysian government that many has taken for granted. The only chance for me to complete my Cambridge A-Levels course for free is to get a scholarship. Getting a very good results in SPM examination is now very essential for me. Besides that, the prices for the books needed is also not cheap. Getting an original reference book for Biology my cost you over RM100. Getting a photocopied one will also cost you some money. How good if SPBT project can be extended even to the private colleges. Maybe go and sleep now and start dreaming and that will happen. haha.

Another thing that makes my life in college interesting is that none of my new classmates are from SMK Subang Utama. This means that I will need to start making new friends the moment I enter my class. The first person that I know is Paul Wong from Catholic High School. Then, I have discovered that there are not many from my class that are from Subang Jaya. My classmates came from everywhere. There is 1 Sabahan, 5-6 Sarawakians, 2 Johorians, I Korean, 1 Indian(as in from India) and many more. My class is a combination of 30 students, which is a slightly smaller class compared to the time back in my secondary school. Now I am still trying to remember the name of all my classmates, hopefully by early February I will be able to name all of them.

Besides that, I have found out that this college is really a place which you will feel comfortable to study. Besides having the air-conditioned classrooms, the library is also a very comfortable place to study. It is a place where most of the books are reference books, and most importantly they are very organised. As long as the book is available, finding a book will never be a hard thing in that library as all the books are being barcoded and labelled. Moreover, there are computers in the library which has internet access. This has made research easier. Another very important thing of this college is that the science laboratories are much better than those in secondary school. And we are working in smaller groups now (2 person in a group) or even conducting experiments individually. This will give me a very good cahnce for me to learn the techniques of conducting experiments which I think I am quite bad with it. Hopefully that with this new environment, I will be able to be more prepared for my AS level Practical Papers.

Furthermore, the lecturers that I got are all good lecturers. All of them are able to make the class interesting. And all of them are willing to help if there are parts which the class is not clear in. Hopefully that they will be able to help me to excal in my A-Levels.

This is just the beginning of a new page of my life. There are yet a lot more things which are yet to be explored in the college and this new lifestyle. Hopefully that while I am doing my A-Levels, I will be able to find fun and enjoy the college life.

Perpaduan Teras Kejayaan

Bersatu kita teguh, bercerai kita roboh.

Rakyat Malaysia, semarakkan semangat perpaduan kita semua!

Merdeka, merdeka, merdeka.

Mari kita meneliti apa yang hendak disampaikan melalui lagu ini dan menjadikannya sesuatu yang praktikal.

Lagu tema Hari Kemerdekaan pada tahun 2008
Perpaduan Teras Kejayaan

Kini semangat jalan seiring
Satu amanah kerjasama
Jadi teras bengsa mulia
Sehati sejiwa

Bangun membantu agar sepakat
Moga terserlah perpaduan
Agar teguh dipersada
Dalam hidup harmoni

Sirami rasa kasih saying
Jadi benteng hidup yang harmoni
Nurani ikhlas
Dihati murni
Menjadi kekuatan kita

Bersatu…bersatu
Bersatu gagah bercerai rebah
Hindarkan hasrat sengketa kita
Perpaduan teras kejayaan

Berpadu…berpadu
Berpadu bulat kata sepakat
Menjadi cita nagara jaya
Perpaduan teras kejayaan

Hove You Learnt Your Lesson?

By the way, if you still do not know the results for the Permatang Pauh by-election, here is the results:
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Pakatan Rakyat) :Anwar Ibrahim : 31195 votes
UMNO(Barisan Nasional) : Arif Shah Omar Shah :15524 votes
AKIM(Individuals): Hanafi Hamat : 92 votes.

It is now very clear that Anwar has won with a landslide victory. A total of more than 15000 majority, even more than what his wife, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah has got. To me, it was a bit shocking as I do not expect such a big majority. I was expecting him to win with around 5000 majority as we can see that the BN team has been doing a lot of things during these few days. They have even sent a candidate who is able to speak Chinese, hoping to secure some ballots from the Chinese voters, who were expected to be the key group to decide the winner for the by-election (no doubt Arif Shah is a really good ADUN for Penang).

It might seems that someone has lost in this by-election, but can they be the winner? The decision is in their hand.

The results today will definately be another turning point for Malaysia's political habitat after the 8 March general election. But, will you really change? Have you really learnt your lessons? Have you really find out what is wrong with them? Are you still planning to continue with your old style? My urge to you is to CHANGE. Change for the future of yourself and most importantly, change for a brighter future for Malaysia. If you are willing to change, people will still accept you, but if you don't, that's it, people will do what they think they can to judge you. If you don't change now, you might not be having a second chance. So, please think again and act now. Better late than never.
